thinking about this post

For years, my wife would advise me of hating this or that, and I'd be all, "nah. I'm angry right now but i don't hate anything. It takes too much energy. I'd rather take a nap."

And i point out how unnatural hate is, how hard people have to work to keep it up.

All too easily they get comfortable and relax, and sure they might have conditioned themselves into reflexive bigotry, but hate is a fire that burns itself out. It's exhausting.

@lunareclipse This is. A very good post
@socks @lunareclipse Yeah this is part of why the whole "it feels good to hate" just weirds me out.

It feels obnoxious to maintain such intense emotions (of any sort, short temporary indulgence of some can be nice, but persistent?). Besides mild disgust is more than enough for the proper reactions in cases where it's warranted and far less maintenance.
@lunareclipse Actually, this pastor sounds like a Jedi master 🤔

@lunareclipse 🤯 good quote. When we shut down and shame parts of ourselves, we lean towards hate of another that reminds us of those rejected parts.

It feels good to ridicule outside ourselves what we feel as shame inside.

It’s why transphobia is so bad. Repressing gender hurts.

@lunareclipse Hence the reason I stopped long ago to care about if someone is religious or not rather than trying to find what does religion bring to the table. If it brings moral compass... Well... We're quite short of that, so it is very welcome.
@lunareclipse thats why it should be allowed and taught as part of emotiinal regulation skills. Go hate the police, your landlord, the blackshirts etc.
@lunareclipse this person's Christianing better than most Christians
@iakobsdesamos @lunareclipse I came across this kind of Christian coaching content recently and found it surprisingly motivating https://mastodon.world/ It feels less pressured and more meaningful compared to traditional self-help advice. I like how the focus stays on faith, discipline, and emotional strength together. That creates a more balanced message for people who want real personal growth. Interesting perspective.

@lunareclipse
We should ALL be asking ourselves this every day!

@lunareclipse

Jesus really was a pretty radical guy and every once in a while it sneaks through despite the best efforts of supremacist religion.
