While the following text has been circulating already (thanks to @fcambus, @joel, @daftaupe & @grahamperrin amongst others), I figured it was time to publish it myself, with a couple edited notes following feedback from fellow Linux & *BSD enthusiasts alike: https://club.unix.rocks/commentary/under-linux/

Putting together ideas for a follow-up piece, very open to constructive criticism, pushback or enthusiasm! 🤓

Beneath the Linux surface: the UNIX legacy, a lively ecology

An open invitation to Linux users across the board, offering a closer look at the penguin and its iceberg, a walk across the ecosystems that make it possible, an exploration beyond one’s biome.

@veg Great article! I'm not that deep into all the details but I did like that it shows that it really is an ecosystem that builds on things created through time by a wide range of people. I was aware of it but never to this detail.

A lot of people (me included) tend to focus on what makes Linux great (compared to Windows) but forget about the community building aspect that made it possible in the first place.
