Playing the next six in release order, definitely not all tonight but I'm in the 7th in a game of interplay 00 already. So maybe two or three more tonight.
Finally a good one, "Interplay Sports Baseball 2000" was a lot of fun. I got a grand slam and won 4-2. I didn't like that I couldn't move around home plate or the mound, but compared to the other 6 this one is great. I'm sure as I go further they will be better ones.
"High Heat Baseball 2000" came out about a month after "Interplay 00" and boy is it ugly. Probably ugliest so far. The controls are more "detailed" but it doesn't amount to much. Lost 0-1. Unfortunately there are two more in the high heat series.
Okay so "Sammy Sosa High Heat Baseball 2001" came out less than a year later and is more of the same. The physics are a little different, I hit a ton dingers but they rarely turned into runs. Lost 1-2.
Releasing almost 6 months after the PS2 launched in North America "High Heat Major League Baseball 2002" pretty much identical to its predecessors. Stats and rosters were updated, as was the UI slightly. The graphics were identical to the last one but with smoothing turned on.
Been playing as the Reds in these 30ish year old baseball games so it's cool to hear Larkin in the booth with Jim Day today.
"Big League Sluggers Baseball" came out all the way on 03. It a very Japanese arcade style baseball game and was more enjoyable than a lot of them simply by being simple.
So I have just been searching "baseball" in duckstation and have learned (by instead searching for "triple play") that "Triple Play is a series of 6 games on the
#psx with more on other consoles. So I still have all those to go.
97 had an option 3 inning games hoping that continues throughout all 6
"Triple Play '97" is better than a lot of them. I liked the field play, hated the batting, pitch was neutral.
"Triple Play '98" had a ui designed for crab people. There were loading screens between the setting pages and texture warping in the outfield. Batting was better but not perfect. Accidentally played as th Yankees and felt gross
"Triple play 99" had a career mode I didn't play and some ui improvements but was mostly the same game. As I played "... 2000", "... 01", and finally "TriplePlay Baseball" it became more that clear that these were mostly just stat and roster updates, which is fine.
After playing 1 exhibition game each in 17 different #psx baseball games I can say with clarity that none of them are the "NBA Jam" of baseball games

Is like a "NBA Jam" but for Baseball on the #psx?
jorts.horse"Interplay Sports Baseball 2000" was the best though. Mainly because I won the exhibition I played. Also my chief complaint was solved by actually reading the controls menu.

jorts.horsePlayed "Virtual Pool" Tuesday night. It wasn't good. Just learning that is mouse compatible, but doubt that would save it.
I've been picking ones at random (besides the baseball games) and it has not always been good. I might start picking games I just know are good. Who cares anyways.
Played "Einhänder" a cyberpunk scrolling shooter by Square. This one went hard. The Earf is at war with the moon & you gotta do something about it. I've previously played this one, beat it for the 1st time, last night. Improves a lot on "Gunstar Heroes" & "Panzer Dragoon". A quintessential
#psx game
It really felt like a mix of "Panzer Dragoon" and "Gunstar Heroes" but on a scale that the Genesis or even the Saturn couldn't achieve. Sometimes it felt like mid-boss after mid-boss but in the best possible way. I want to go back and play it on higher difficulties with the other ships soon.
I've played a few more games in 2001's "Triple Play Baseball" and it really has grown on me. Having a quickplay option and game speed setting really helps. Gonna put it on my G350.
PS2 version goes for less $5 cib on eBay, I might just do that.
Just down at the schoolyard hitting homers.
"SpongeBob SuperSponge" is a mid "Yoshi's Island" clone, released days after 9/11. I vaguely remember having it as a kid & being unimpressed, thinking of it as a "snes game on the
#psx . Played it with my kid today, had fun with it.
There's no crying baby, instead you got sonic rings but they're spatulas and the eggs are jellyfish.
I think my younger brother got this one dirt cheap during the PS2 era, which would've made it that much more unimpressive. We were both scooping up discounted PSX games to play on the PS2 all the way into the late 2000's. Same with Gamecube games to play on the Wii.
Played "Hot Shot's Golf" the
#psx this weekend. I love golf games (not wild about the actual sport) & had played this one before. It's the original & you can tell the best is yet to come but it's a fine golf game. Had part 3 on the ps2 as a kid, so it gives me gta1 vibes.
Back when GTA5 was new I used to play at least 9 holes everyday after work. "Kirby Dream Course" for the SNES is probably my favorite golf game, it isn't special or perfect I've just played it a lot. Played a lot of "Golf with Friends" back in its Steam early access days too.
Been busy, also been playing "Crash Bandicoot". Idk what to say that hasn't been said. Good start to a good series. Probably beat it over 12 times. It is a little more rough around the edges than its sequels & I like that, but I keep trying to do the double jump & slide from later games tho.
#psxI didn't have this one as a kid, but one of the kids across the street did and he'd trade me it for "Star Wars: Masters of Teräs Käsi" for weeks on end.
The "N Sane Trilogy" versions are okay but I kinda hate them. They look like garbage and have weird physics (same with the Spyro remakes).
I somehow managed to clip behind the rock and crash is just not having it.
Tawna is kinda cursed looking in Crash 96, and even more cursed looking in the remake somehow. Never played it but the AU Tawna from the 4th game looks a lot better but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Might just do "Crash 2" tonight.
Widescreen Crash 2 makes me feel like my controller is shaped wrong.
I use the pixie shader most of the time to make it look even worse. Love me some fake scanlines
There are apparently some HD texture packs out there but I have yet to find them.
Aw hell yeah, the Scrubbing Bubbles are in this one.
Who the fuck are the Komodo Brothers?
I never want to be pedantic but those grey things are Possums or Phalangeriformes without the o from Australia. Opossum, or Didelphimorphia with the O is the critter we have in the US.
I'm trying not to hurt them
