OMG It's just like in GhostBusters.
#ExtremeRain is coming

@atthenius That was fun, me and the 14yo got caught out in that on the bike.

The bike needed a good wash after winter grime, though :D

@Andres4NY @atthenius I got hammered by one of those back about 2015. I left home near Columbia University and the sky was sunny and perfectly clear. When I started skating over the Manhattan Bridge it was partly cloudy. Then I got to Greenpoint and OMG saw the shelf cloud coming. I was drenched before I could get to the subway the other side of the Pulaski.
@roadskater @atthenius Argh fuck, okay, not so cool.. our basement flooded. #NYC #ForestHills #Queens

@Andres4NY @roadskater

I am cautiously collecting flood tales.

Did you live there (or know who did) in the 2000s? How often has it flooded in the last 5 years comparatively.

My own anecdote is that I don't remember rains this hard in the 2000's.

@atthenius @roadskater No, we moved here in 2020. We've had ~3 floods since then, of which the first two, in the first 1-2 years, were gutter-related. I fixed that issue and assumed we were done w/ the flooding, but this one was sewer-related and.. ugh. So much worse.

Also we're like 100ft above sea level, this kind of thing isn't supposed to happen here (unlike other very low parts of NYC).

@atthenius @roadskater I also couldn't help but wonder if we would've had this sewer flooding if, instead of 50 lanes of Queens Blvd and driveways and sad beaten-down grass, we had had some proper rain gardens buffering rain water..

@roadskater @Andres4NY

Today the downdrafts uptown were brutal. Didn’t end up w huge rain this time. But it sure looked ominous
