#Wero is NOT a new payment platform, it's a thin layer on top of SEPA transfers. It's the culmination of many years of slowly unifying the money transfer systems in the EU, driving down costs of international bank transfers, making small transactions feasible and now Wero simplifies the use of all of this. It's a very European approach and I like it! #ThanksEU

(Yes, it uses AWS for some parts. Just like many other banking apps do. They are planning to change that, so give it some time :)

This thin layer can be integrated by participating banks in two ways. Either they integrate it into their own banking app/website or they decide to let the Wero app connect to the bank systems (that's what my bank opted for). Most problems people mention are with the banking apps and those problems need to be addressed by the bank, not by Wero. Keep that in mind when discussing the pro and cons, please.

@jwildeboer

So why this overengineered BS instead of just the good old EPC QR Code, probably enriched with a „must use ICT“ - Flag added?

@Saupreiss @jwildeboer oh, had been wondering that while reading here, if a QR Code scheme for SEPA transfers exists. Thanks for sharing! Do you know if a list of apps supporting EPC QR Codes exists? At least the Wikipedia page doesn't:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EPC_QR_code
Ideally an opensource QR code app like #BinaryEye would redirect it to a banking (or #Wero?) app (or my banks online banking site? though I don't use online banking on my phone so far)
@glsbank: Could I use EPC QR codes with you somehow?

@Saupreiss @jwildeboer @glsbank on second thought: I've also heard that ppl. had put malicious QR codes on top of QR codes for the parking ticket machines in my city, leading to malware downloads. .oO(maybe such a generic, powerful interface like QR codes to/with a generic QR code app might have it's downsides, too?)

@T_X

Depends on use case. For POS, etc., thats easy to mitigate. (Even though way better Solutions already exist and are in production.)

@jwildeboer @glsbank

@T_X how it works in Austria is: our banking apps all have an option to "create a payment from QR code". Using this, one can scan an EPC QR code that has been printed onto an individual invoices. Automatically inputs the IBAN, transaction value and reference number into the app.

No one is printing these QR codes onto anything but individual invoices, at the moment.
@Saupreiss @jwildeboer @glsbank

@T_X @Saupreiss @jwildeboer @glsbank there is a very successful zero fee "payment via link/QR code" app built on top of iDeal (precursor to Wero) called TiKKiE: https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tikkie

@thomas_shone

Theres the already the specified EPC QR Code. (Adoption varies widely by Country). All that it actually lags is a Flag that signals to enforce instant Transfer… Zero more infrastructure required beyond that.

(I would still prefer NFC based schemes for convenience, but hey, that’s me.)

@T_X @jwildeboer @glsbank

@T_X @Saupreiss @jwildeboer @glsbank My Banking App supports those QR codes directly, no need for an additional App.
