"High functioning" is just "suffering in a way that is convenient for neuroytpical society"
@Willowbriar this hits home... I used to be praised for being so "high function" and the good type of autistic.

@dracokitty
Being praised is soooo fucking telling
Ive never gotten praised for having the right kind of headache
Never gotten a pat on the back for having high functioning flu

(Simplified examples i am not actually saying autism is just a "disease" or "illness". But it is how its treated by most)

I swear I have more autistic friends than not lately and I love all of them. It takes learning their way of communicating. But that both people being "high" functioning together. Not just them having to conform to me.

@Willowbriar

@Willowbriar Low functioning means we don't get any agency, but high functioning means we don't get any support. There's no way to win.
@joshsusser @Willowbriar as a supercomputer once said, "what a strange game, the only winning move is to not play" i forget exact wording
@6 @Willowbriar close enough for social media 😉
@Willowbriar convenient for, or exploitable by?
@Willowbriar the line between high functioning and barely-functioning is razor thin

@Willowbriar

"High functioning" often means devoting huge amounts of energy to masking, unsustainably so, just so as to appear "normal" to the neurotypical world.

@Willowbriar Not society, but the authority figures.
@Willowbriar High finctioning generally refers to completely or mostly verbal autism without intelectual disability
