The volcano #Krakatoa in the #DutchEastIndies, aka #Indonesia, began its five-month-long #eruption on #ThisDayInHistory in 1883. The worst of it came three months in, when it exploded and killed more than 36,000, destroying the island and creating the loudest known sound ever.
