I have to wonder why given the fact that Edge is based on Chrome that it would ever do this. I can think of very few reasons—none of them good. You should probably not use software made by this company.

Let me (potentially) add one to the list of ("none of them good") reasons:

Every major cloud provider actively tries to brute force extracting the data from any encrypted zip files that anyone uploads.. ostensibly for "very good reasons" that mostly boil down to "copyright Nazi's" and absolutely fake "save the children" bullshit.

Edge storing decrypted passwords in memory... just makes it that much quicker for Microsoft to be able to brute force 'scanning' your (cloud hosted) files
