The new site makes it easier to:

@Lili in what way was the 2015 version more soulful?
@grahamperrin It doesn't matter what the previous website was like, even if it was a plagiarised version of Microsoft's main page or something (it wasn't, I'm putting a drastic example), I'm still allowed to criticise the new one.

@Lili sure, it'll be nice to understand what you mean by soulless.

Is there a website for a different distro (BSD or Linux) that you think of as more soulful?

@grahamperrin Once again, none of the other websites matter in judging this one so I’m not answering this question. Reasons I find the new FreeBSD main page soulless:

  • top bar with plain colour background and monochrome logo because apparently we need to fit in the limits of CGA these days (at least the logo below is full colour)
  • the Native ZFS, Virtualization and so on ad section that takes half a screen and distracts me from what would be important to me as a user (Latest news etc.). If I want to read what FreeBSD is about, I can go to About → Introduction instead.
  • that god awful SVG of Beastie, look how they massacred my boy
  • ‘Made with love by the FreeBSD Community’ at this point gives me the opposite effect to the one intended, I would feel better with just the © section
@Lili thanks
