Fun Bit

am parked with this fever dream ebike lawncare rig adjacent a high use ped/bike corridor in a liberal side of town

Know who wants to stop & chat?

not the liberals

the right-leaning tradies

they want to know *everything*

&
everything essentially boils down to the pragmatic: 'is it worth it?'

they want to know!

clearly have an eye on the future;

assumed by the disinterested
or not?
disinterested = not interested

@cpm this is the truly fascinating part about community building. It becomes very clear, regardless of political banners, that people notice good work and beneficial systems when they see them, and often it just makes sense for them to join. Sometimes especially the rednecks!

@foundseed
a thing about rednecks
(got solid redneck creds, me)

they *use* energy

&

they pay for it

so

they *grok* it

@foundseed
a large rooftop array went in atop my fav old (1950s) strip mall last summer

encountered the crew end of day (literally smell them before they appear, *hot* summer)

they were tossing scraps into dumpster

asked if was ok to dive the dumpster

they laughed "help your self!"

but, I said, don't you want this?

man, they said, we're all drowning in this

we all have full pv pwr at our places built from overages

better to overpurchase and toss, than underpurchase and run short

@foundseed
fresh wire spools, uncut conduit, sealed boxes of fittings, fasteners, etc stacked on pallets for brokers to purchase

but partials? cutoffs, etc?

toss it all!

there was a large pallet of 500w pv panels that got stabbed by a forklift that sat there until last winter

too heavy to lift for me

hurt me badly, I know some of them could be pressed into service

tested'em myself

@cpm if you'll forgive me my grudge, this is why I get so pedantic about solarwaste re-use being "solarpunk". This story is distopic, and it's something cyberpunk already talked about. Solar waste being tossed and then salvaged out of the trash is not solarpunk, it's the exact life cyberpunk was written to warn of. We are living the cyberpunk, and calling it solarpunk to feel better about the future we're still sourcing from corpo garbage. I hope you grabbed everything you could!

@foundseed
Oh
Oh yeah
Agree
your 'grudge' as such is on solid foundation

the venn diagram has huge overlap

but 'punk', ,
right?

i get it (I think)

I mean, ,
e-bike, , at all, right?
like wtf?

yet here I am!

lol

we do what we do
with the tools we have
trying to push forward into the day as it comes

Keep up the good work!
