Watching the clickbait floggers push panic about Ebola in #Congo and #Uganda.

Ebola is ENDEMIC in D R Congo and surrounding areas. Meaning it's ALWAYS there. Nearly every damn year there's an outbreak of Ebola. The virus is named after a river in Congo.

People there live in disturbing, crushing poverty. The lack of resources, knowledge, care and certain cultural practices means the hemorrhagic fever spreads, more than warranted by the zoonotic animal to human origin.

Stop the madness.

#Ebola

People now clickbaiting the specific strain of #Ebola, #Bundibugyo, shrieking about the WHO statement that there are "no vaccines or therapeutics".

Perspective. The ONLY vaccines for Ebola were "approved" under emergency use (2020), then "compassionate use" clause, last year (#PALM trial). They are either a monoclonal antibody (#Ebanga) or a cocktail of three monoclonal antibodies (#Inmazeb).

What does NOT help: 37-post-long threads, emphasizing dramatic misquotes of WHO/CDC statements focusing on how OMGLETHAL Ebola is.

We got it; #Ebola and #Marburg are VERY DANGEROUS, weird #filoviruses, with a high untreated mortality/fatality rate (35-85% ish), and a fast development of onset of symptoms to death, but have a relatively low R0 (~2) - transmission requires contact with infected bodily fluids or zoonotic (bats, monkeys) feces/fluids.

Facts help. Panic sells.
