Watching the clickbait floggers push panic about Ebola in #Congo and #Uganda.

Ebola is ENDEMIC in D R Congo and surrounding areas. Meaning it's ALWAYS there. Nearly every damn year there's an outbreak of Ebola. The virus is named after a river in Congo.

People there live in disturbing, crushing poverty. The lack of resources, knowledge, care and certain cultural practices means the hemorrhagic fever spreads, more than warranted by the zoonotic animal to human origin.

Stop the madness.

#Ebola

People now clickbaiting the specific strain of #Ebola, #Bundibugyo, shrieking about the WHO statement that there are "no vaccines or therapeutics".

Perspective. The ONLY vaccines for Ebola were "approved" under emergency use (2020), then "compassionate use" clause, last year (#PALM trial). They are either a monoclonal antibody (#Ebanga) or a cocktail of three monoclonal antibodies (#Inmazeb).

The BEST defense against #Ebola is still prevention of #zoonotic transmission, and education about avoiding unnecessary, unprotected contact with bodily fluids; simple barrier nursing, disinfection, etc.

The population in the DR #Congo and #Uganda are overwhelmingly poor, and vastly illiterate. The governments of both are overwhelmed and corrupt to the core.

Some cultural practices includes handling deceased bodies' fluids, in preparation for ritual burial. You see where this is going.

"ZOMG, what are these mystical #Ebola protections you speak of???"

A relatively low concentration bleach solution, surgical gloves, N95 masks, eye protection. Isolate patients away from high traffic areas. Simple barrier nursing.

"Whoa, JUST THAT?"

Yeah. And the people in #Congo and #Uganda can't even afford such basic measures, due to poverty, corruption, war, etc.
