Bond villain has developed a device that will destroy the planet. The British government sends James Bond to offer him tax incentives to build the device on brownfield land in the East Midlands.
@Nickiquote
The device is of course never built and the only people who make any money are the three remaining shareholders of the now defunct East Midland Gas Company which owns the site in question, since they can now write it all off as a tax loss. All three are former Conservative cabinet members.
@Nickiquote
And steal water and power from all nearby towns, diverting it all toward the device.
James Bond then sets up ramparts and machine gun towers around the device to repel the townspeople who come to ask for their water and power back, and to please not destroy the planet.
@space_cadet @Nickiquote
When comes the part where the townspeople are being declared terrorists?
@Nickiquote But when he encountered the British planning system he went back to Plan A

@Nickiquote

"Somebody will invent and build the torment nexus at some point, so it had may as well Hank Scorpio doing it on British soil, paying taxes, and under our government's supervision."

@Shivviness Meanwhile in the EU: β€œEurope needs a sovereign torment nexus”.
@Nickiquote Is the question "How was Nottingham founded?" Alex?
@Nickiquote
Rings true… πŸ”” excellent story continuations down thread too… πŸ€—
@Nickiquote Think about all the tax money that the government won't actually be getting because taxing supervillains makes them move to another country.
@Nickiquote Real life is more unbelievable than fiction these days

@Nickiquote

Plausible. Calling my accountant as we speak.

@Nickiquote

Bloody hell, that Pu238 is expensive shit. I may need a kickstarter here.

Slightly better options on the old U235 stuff, so maybe some vibe-coding on the apparatus, and some UI changes, it might be doable...

@bytebro That’s the attitude. Make do and mend.
@Nickiquote
Indeed. Need to talk to the biggly clever people at CERN about this 'antimatter' stuff. That sounds promising.

@Nickiquote

Soon, in: "007 the Torture Nexus".

@Nickiquote at last, the true story of the Polaris programme!
@Nickiquote this remind me of the laundry, a series of book about a british spy agency fighting lovecraftian menace. Their job is to protect the brirish crown, great britain and the world, in that order.
