@k8vsy new antenna : lightning storms :: new telescope parts : cloudy skies

🤣😭

@k8vsy what did you get? 2/70 or HF?

@jwalsh2 a 2m/70cm antenna; I already had the CMA-SBB-2 but I upgraded to the 38-inch one: CMA-SBB-5

@k8vsy @jwalsh2 Last year II switched from a long, flexy Hustler RX-2 on the car to a smaller 36" Comet SBB-224NMO. It works great, no performance difference that I can tell, and the lower profile (and black color vs. shiny stainless) is good too. It makes much less wind noise and seems less likely to get blown/knocked off, like happened a couple of times with the old antenna.

@croyle @k8vsy @jwalsh2 Those model numbers sounded familiar so I checked and indeed I have the SBB-224NMO and the SBB5 hanging in the basement.

I got the 224NMO in anticipation of the TM-D750, but I get the feeling I'm not going to need it for that anymore. The SSB5 is to be mounted on portable tripod and mast for emcom.

@kr1st @k8vsy @jwalsh2 I got the 224NMO for my FT-400, but thinking that I might at some point want to plug in my TH-D75 and get the 1.25 band.

I like that tripod too, with the telescoping section.

@croyle @kr1st @k8vsy Hmmm, yeah I only have the HT antennas for 1.25 band. I should get one for the TH-D75 too.
@jwalsh2 @kr1st @k8vsy I have a different antenna for 220 on the roof of my house, a Diamond IIRC. That one I have actually used, along with a small amp(!) because that's the only way I can (barely) reach a 220 repeater around here... So I've never even tried using the antenna on the car.
