Another step on the “Install Mobile Radio in Car” journey - Trying a COTS fuse box tap cable to connect into a 10A source. Measured 12V current draw at the various radio TX power levels (into dummy load) to ensure staying within the 10A tap limit. Current may change a-bit with Ant VSWR… Next step is wrapping up channel programming and then testing powered by the car with the mobile antenna. Almost there! More fun ahead! #HamRadio #MobileRadio
Forgot that I had purchased this nifty power-pole to T-connector adapter to hook up this radio to my 12V base power supply. When figuring out final cable lengths might just put a PP connection in-line to allow other equipment to use the tap source if I have the mobile out of the vehicle at that moment. It’s also interesting that the radio has a separate 15A fast-blow fuse in the radio-side positive power lead. More fuses are better? (Or just more failure points?) #HamRadio #MobileRadio
@n8dmt one way to acquire a whole collection of such nifty adaptors is to cut power cords in half and rejoin them with power pole connectors, that way everything ends up with an adaptor and a power pole connector.
