I've been reading that there are rumors that hard drives and USB flash drives might become obsolete due to a supposed shift toward the cloud storage.
I don't think that may be a good idea. So much to say about that stupidity.

Sounds like a "make people believe that's the tendency so the shift can be forced", instead of an actual tendency. Seen such strategy being used in other fields before.

Also can't say how's the technology culture in other countries, but on mine, people still use analogical and local a lot, both as hobby and professionally. Like companies using WinXP internally and there being retro consoles capable of using HDDs still filling the market. To force such shift here would be to undermine the economy too much to be safe.

Agreed, I don't think people will ever totally trust cloud storage. There'll always be a need for physical media, though its form will continue to evolve. Remember these? LOL

@richardwrightfan Imagine that have to pay a LOT of money per year to keep TERABYTES of videos? No way !!

Me ? Do I remember them? Man, I still use MiniDisc in year 2026 ! One format I love so much !!! 🤓👍 💽

I used to love MD format in the early 2000s when I first moved to Japan. Yeah, I agree with you that the cost of "convenience" with cloud storage will increase as consumers continue to rely on it.
