Currently thinking about starting a newsletter with long-form content about #ADHD (instead of doing the laundry). Would you be interested in something like that?
...
Edit: ok definitely not substack, open to suggestions

@adhd_coffee Substack is bad for me, for you, and those I care about. I encourage you to check out https://leavesubstack.com for more information and information on alternatives.
You Should Probably Leave Substack

You should probably leave Substack. Here’s why and how.

How to Leave Substack.
@gusseting thx for the heads up, it will not be substack (if I do that)
@adhd_coffee Pleasure is all mine if it sends you in the right direction :)
@adhd_coffee Can it not be the fascist platform? Maybe Ghost?
@microwavenby damn haven't done any research about them, guess I have to look for an (European) alternative... Suggestions?
@adhd_coffee Yeah.. i suppose there are many "email marketing" things, but the alternative i hear most often is Ghost. Sadly their Pro is US hosted.
Maybe Rumicat? A Dutch company, nice pricing model, looks friendly - but I don't think they self host their services.
Newsletter.page is made and hosted in Italy.

@adhd_coffee @microwavenby

Ghost can be self hosted, as explained by @molly0xfff

https://www.citationneeded.news/substack-to-self-hosted-ghost/

Ghost also has activitypub integration for fediverse/mastodon which would benefit a lot of readers here

Migrating from Substack to self-hosted Ghost: the details

I migrated Citation Needed from Substack to self-hosted Ghost. Here is exactly how I did that.

Citation Needed

@adhd_coffee @microwavenby

Alternatively, if you want to avoid vibe-coded software (ghost accepts ai/llm contributions) @writefreely has integration for publishing to the fediverse, so people here can follow your posts easily. Can be self hosted or @write_as offers paid hosting of the platform.

@adhd_coffee @microwavenby Trying really hard not to derail myself with this interesting question: I couldn't quickly tell whether Buttondown.email (used by Annalee Newitz & others) is US-based, though "LLC" implies yes?

But I do really respect them for this page listing alternatives, which you might find useful: https://buttondown.com/alternatives

(For the record, I use Ghost and quite like it – but I 100% understand that you've ruled it out for the same reason)

@adhd_coffee Sorry, you lost me at β€œlong form” πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ
@adhd_coffee Long-form content. ADHD. I can see a potential problem here. πŸ€”
@adhd_coffee someone whose judgment I trust uses buttondown.com for his newsletter
