Its bonkers to think that we were heading into the 90's and there was still a debate as to whether folk wanted to buy or rent.
It feels like we have come full circle and now rental via streaming is the norm.
Personally I have stopped paid streaming services and buy physical media due to streaming services buggering about with their content being there one minute and disappearing or moving to a different service the next.

That's what I am most concerned about. The gradual fading of the ability to buy physical media.

We have already seen digital media being 'bought' and then licenses expire and suddenly the company that 'sold' you a movie no longer has the rights to stream it to you.

Its gonna put piracy back on the agenda. Someone who bought a movie that has had it removed from their service would be morally (but not legally) correct to get it via unconventional means.
