Many new MARTA faregates are not ready as of today, the second day of the launch of the Better Breeze fare system. At MARTA Midtown, old faregates are open while new faregates are still behind construction fence.

Almost two weeks after launch of Better Breeze, MARTA Rail and Rapid A lines still don't have new validators ready at enough stations and remain essentially free. But people have not flocked en masse to the system since they opened the gates, so free fares will not result in higher ridership.

@bdatlrides I’ve been doing my part to ride free! But yes, trains have not been more crowded than normal. People will ride if it’s useful and frequent, not if it’s free.

@bdatlrides Update: they are enforcing fares at Midtown, but the gates are open. It just flashes red if you don’t pay and then they have an employee yelling at people. Wild.
