One has to wonder exactly what the rich and powerful of this world think will happen when there's a whole lot of unemployed professionals with a lot of time on their hands and a whole bunch of useful skills floating around with access to the internet.
@iris_meredith I genuinely think their goal is to be able to blow up the internet before then. Lock at all the pushes to put internet access behind clear-name authentication.
@Sevoris Undoubtedly, but I also don't think they register quite how hard that actually is. Like, actually making that happen will probably mean breaking DNS, and breaking DNS has... consequences beyond what they can see.
@Sevoris Sure, they can make things difficult for the average not-particularly-motivated person, but against a determined effort to subvert it? Like, if China can't manage it, the anglosphere probably can't either.
@iris_meredith "Honorably Universities revolutionary subcommittee for DNS"

@iris_meredith And I mean that entirely genuinely.

Like at least the cybersecurity specialists at my university wouldn't take this lying down, looking back at the lectures I had with them.

There's some Serious Motivation about in those parts.

(Maybe in parts also to join the parties of Mordor I guess, but motivation for sure)
