Why wont this #SuperMajority party legislate a #Tax on #GasSuperProfits when the passing of the bill is handed to the Govt on a silver platter? All that is required to fix the budget, to provide the required #SafetyNet social services and more is a #SimpleYES and it’s done. THe chances of those progressive legislations being overturned by the opposition is NIL That is unless #SpinelessAlbo persists in his #HateCampaign against the #Greens which would effectively feed a #rebellion at the next election leading to unpredictable results. I’m stupid, and I can see that coming Albo! Wasting the opportunities given to you by the electorate to shape an Australia that cares for all Australians.

“Speaking on the Australia Institute’s Follow the Money podcast, Greens leader, Senator Larissa Waters, said the party’s new “Tax the 1%” campaign was aimed at securing major reforms that target ultra-wealthy Australians and gas exporters.” (Source: https://thepoint.com.au/news/260512-if-we-dont-act-well-end-up-like-the-us-greens-leader-larissa-waters-calls-for-tax-on-the-1)

'If we don’t act, we’ll end up like the US': Greens leader Larissa Waters calls for tax on the 1%

The Greens are ramping up pressure on the Albanese government to tax billionaires and multinational corporations, arguing Australia risks becoming “like America” unless it tackles soaring wealth inequality and the housing crisis.

The Point

@RaymondPierreL3 "Why wont this #SuperMajority party legislate a #Tax on #gassuperprofits

Why? Because the Billionairres said No and guess who the billionairres own?

Labor also quietly shelved and gambling ad reforms today despite 80% of citizens wanting action on this. Why? See my first response.

@Bot4Sale
Yes and no. Yes the top end of town certainly has #AlboPM ‘s ear. But there’s also Labor’s dogged adherence to neoliberal economics (I guess because #Labor doesn’t believe there are any other suitable economic systems that can be successfully delivered) and then there’s foreign govts (Our on-selling export gas importers), they have clout in investments (Japan is the biggest gas infrastrure and minerals extraction industries investor) and in middle power defence alliances (shoring up US’s decreasing reliability as an ally). Also, large foreign corporations threatening to walk out if things get too progressive, etc..

It’s a complex issue. But it’s also very, very simple, #AlboPM is too whimpy to say NO to any of these bullies and too focussed on keeping Labor in power.
