The truth is this #NZPol government knows we don't need gas for electricity generation but are using that excuse as justification for restarting fossil fuel exploration (despite a substantial NZ gas field not being discovered since Maui in 1969) and building a hugely uneconomic LNG terminal to process expensive imported LNG at taxpayers expense to supply NZ industries such as Fonterra etc with the gas they need.
