I think I figured out how to work around the idea that it's like Sex Pollen or something (that's where my brain goes when I hear "Hentai-VIRUS")
Maybe it's more like fanfiction trope of hanahaki disease (die if your love if unrequited) and you're dating and have to consummate your love but you can't just do a casual fling to cure the hentai virus. You gotta find a bond (or multiple soulmates idk)

@lapis as you talk to passengers everything you say affects both affection and viral load, as viral load goes up they mutate
@Taweret as I went down to get supper I mentioned the idea of the "HentaiVirus Cruise Ship Dating Sim" to my brother and he immediately pulled up the opening for something called "The Love Boat" and I genuinely could not tell if it was scripted TV or early Reality TV
(I say early but apparently Reality stuff goes back to at least radio days)
