I'm very happy to see how my 3-year journey replacing big tech with privacy-oriented, humane platforms is shaping:

Gmail: Tuta and Proton

Google Calendar: Fossify

Google Maps: Organic Maps

Twitter: Mastodon

Facebook, Instagram: Pixelfed

WhatsApp, Telegram: Signal

Android: GrapheneOS

Windows: Linux Mint

It was overwhelming, it took time and research. But I can tell you that another digital experience is possible.

Now I'm thrilled to have devices that belong to ME, like in the old days.

@linguistgoneforeign Yay! Condragulations on getting so far! I'm still early in my journey, but so far:

Gmail (phasing out): Mailfence

Google Calendar: Mailfence / The Good Cloud (NextCloud)

Google/Apple Maps: CoMaps

Twitter: Mastodon

Facebook, Instagram: Pixelfed, Loops

WhatsApp: Signal (tbc: SimpleX)

iOS: tbc (hopefully a de-Googled OS on Fairphone)

macOS: tbc (hopefully Mint or similar)

[Unavoidable on work device: Microsoft/Windows and Google suite]

@clickhere

That already sounds like a good plan!

I used Mailfence for a bit but it didn't convince me. CoMaps I installed yesterday, as per recommendation of a few Mastodonians.

@linguistgoneforeign Oh - can you tell me what it was about Mailfence that put you off? (I'm still starting, so open to change..!)

Yeah, I find CoMaps really good - it took a little getting used to, but I'm very happy with it now.

@clickhere Next #challenge for you is to include the web links to all those - and make another post (can't get enough of this as a message and link)

Links make it that bit easier and likely for change by clicking a easy link and having a look at the suggested #alternatives... thanks (if you'd like to put link next time!)
