Montanans:

NorthWestern Energy CEO Brian Bird has said to investors that he wants the company to merge with Black Hills Energy partly so they can β€œcapture data center opportunities.”

But #NorthWesternEnergy now wants to get approval for the merger from the Public Service Commission without sharing information about their data center plans and how this would affect electric rates or water.
The Montana Public Service Commission is holding a multi-day hearing that starts tomorrow, Tuesday, May 12th. Can you make a public comment urging the Commissioners to vote NO on this merger?
To comment on zoom on Tuesday: make sure to call 1-800-646-6150 or email [email protected] by 4:30 PM today (Monday) and ask to comment on Docket 2025.10.078 via Zoom. If you send an email, make sure to include the Docket number, your name and your location.

To comment in person: just show up at 9 am on Tuesday in the Bollinger Room at the Montana Public Service Commission! (1701 Prospect Ave, Helena, MT 59620).

You can also register to comment on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday at 9 am! But be aware that the hearing may only last two days. We’d encourage you to plan on commenting Tuesday or Wednesday.

Public comments typically follow a format like this:
β€œGood morning Mr. Chair, Commissioners, my name is xxxx, spelled xxxx, calling in from [town]. I’m here to voice my concern about … [and make most important point first]... Thank you.” You should plan on having no more than 2-3 minutes to comment.

To submit a written comment: email [email protected] and include Docket 2025.10.078 in the subject line.
