Chile powder (ancho or other) with water works well too. Hot sauce does not! The vinegar will blast you first - no fun; I found out in 2012 thanks to some students.

@SRDas FWIW, there are hot sauces that use no vinegar. Vodka is a common sub.
@xvf17 yes. Simplest way to get the chile flavor in chocolate is with powder (and just water). Enough fat in the chocolate to solubilize flavor. Ancho and others, mixes work quite well.
