We should remember when it comes to politics that there is a difference between intrainstitutional solutions and extrainstitutional solutions: solutions which operate within the institutions imposed on us (capitalism, the state, the church) and solutions which operate outside of those institutions.
Intrainstitutional solutions involve #reform, using the rules and tools of the institution to mitigate the harm done by the institution.
Extrainstitutional solutions involve #revolution, abolishing the institutions altogether so that they can no longer cause harm at all.
Examples of intrainstitutional action involves voting, peaceful protesting, and legislating for corporate regulations, workers rights, and police reform.
Examples of extrainstitutional action often involves... less than legal stuff. That's partly what makes it extrainstitutional.
#Leftists are often called hypocrites for calling for extrainstitutional ends while living an intrainstitutional life. We've all seen the stupid memes. But these institutions are forced on us, to operate outside of them is often illegal or highly impractical.
Just remember this next time you go #vote. Voting may at best function as temporary harm mitigation, but it will NEVER be an avenue for real, long term liberation and equality. Only revolution can do that. And we're more than ripe for another #revolution. Workers of the world, unite!
