At this point, the Google Play app review process has become a security liability. I have had an app update for #Conversations_im in the review queue since April 28th. Previously, app updates have been rejected for stupid, hallucinated reasons; this time, we are just being ignored entirely. The release is not shipping any security fixes, but imagine if it did.

#XMPP

@daniel
Time to port Conversations to mobile Linux and Sailfish OS?
@aerion There is no such thing as port. Basically the entire codebase is very Android specific so it would be a full rewrite. On the other hand Dino already exists and has mobile Linux support. So if anything I would probably collaborate more closely with the Dino developers.

@daniel
I appreciate that. I meant the term loosely.

In general, I'd love to see more Android apps 'ported' to alternative mobile OSs. The pending changes to Android later this year make it clear that it's more important than ever to have other options than the choice between Android and iOS.

@aerion @daniel I used Conversations on Sailfish OS for years. Since Sailfish OS has Android App support and Conversations works entirely Google-free, it works like a charm. (Now I use Conversations on Android, for various reasons independent from XMPP.)
@catisabetterdog
Of course, being able to use Android apps on Sailfish OS is great, but ultimately we need native apps. Relying on compatibility with another OS's apps is a risky strategy. What if Android app support gets dropped? What if Google changes Android to the point where this no longer works? And what about apps that depend on SafetyNet or Play Integrity, or whatever Google calls it these days?
