News from the #Berlin #XMPP #sprint: Various developers had good discussions, tasty food, and did some programming!

There was work on message edits in #Conversations_im, SFS (XEP-0447) in #Dino, fixes for the next release of #Kaidan, #OMEMO+#PubSub improvements in #Mellium, a bigger update of SCE (XEP-0420) and its #Slixmpp implementation, and some fixes of #Debian packages.

@smn true .. but it's also true that it has become pretty common to find #conversations_im for free several times a year .. and sometimes even a month. @daniel has been very generous several times this year, setting Conversations for free download from the Google Play Store, specially at #diday

What #Conversations_im did was prove that the technology works. When #Matrix reinvented the wheel as an eventually consistent graph database with a JSON API, they didn't do it because #XMPP didn't work. They did it because their investors were seeking control over the entire stack.

It took Google 9 days to review this release. These insane review times seem to be the new normal.

#Conversations_im is currently in the Top 50 most download apps on @fdroidorg.
In the messaging category it ranks fairly close to #Element X and has almost 3x the downloads of #DeltaChat. Just to give you a perspective on loudness on social media vs reality.

Looking at #Conversations_im / #Quicksy in the Play Store and #Fdroid :
It seems to me as if it takes much longer now until updates are approved by Google. Meanwhile, updates at F-Droid seem to get faster.

Thanks Google and @fdroidorg for making it even more attractive for the average user to switch the store.
