Im from the Netherlands btw and not Holland

Holland consists of North- and South Holland which are provinces within the #Netherlands

The province I live in is called ‘Overijssel’ which is presumably something like ‘over the IJssel’ where the IJssel is a river

@stux

We have friends whose son & his wife have re-located to Utrecht, leaving the US.

@stux Not for doxxing, but I do enjoy zooming in a little closer to see where other users here live! It feels like I can afford this kind of tourism. 😁
@stux wait so you mean to tell me there are other places in the Netherlands besides Amsterdam? This is news to me /s
@aerobender Now I’m not sure anymore
@stux I keep explaining to folks that I am 100% Dutch (well, actually it's only 92 % due to a great grandfather from Quakenbrück, Lower Saxony) but only a 30% Hollander at the very maximum. Because with my family there are two stronger factors, one being Friesland and the other Zeeland.

@stux I'm from both Holland and the Netherlands.

Just like how people who live in England, are also living in the United Kingdom or Great Britain. ;)

@stux is this like Scottish and Welsh people being told "oh, you're from England?" and they're like "No, the UK" ? /gen

@stux "Where are you from?" "Poland" "Holland?"

That has happened a few times before I've moved here, and zero times since then. Which I regret because right now I would answer "No, North Brabant" to confuse them further.

@stux you're not a Hollander, but this man is
@stux we took a rideshare to the airport when we were moving here from the states. We told the driver we were moving to The Netherlands… which he was sure was in the UK for some reason 🤣 🤦‍♂️
@stux Was at some point in history common to use Holland to refer to the whole country by the Dutch themselves? I recall having read some piece of news about the Dutch government changing the name in communications, but maybe it only referred to English media.
