In #Russia’s #Novosibirsk, physicists - 82-year-old #Valery_Zvegintsev and 71-year-old #Vladislav_Galkin - have been sentenced to 12.5 years in a penal colony in a treason case.

The prosecution may have stemmed from an article on gas dynamics published in a foreign scientific journal, possibly an #Iranian one. The trial has been running in complete secrecy since autumn 2024.

#Valery_Zvegintsev worked as a research fellow at the #Khristianovich Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and founded the High-Speed Aerogasdynamics laboratory. #Galkin worked as an associate professor at #Tomsk Polytechnic University and co-authored scientific papers with #Zvegintsev. Both scientists authored numerous research papers on hypersonic technologies.
