Why are scientists more concerned than ever before?

Ocean current Europe depends on is at risk of collapsing

A vast Atlantic current, the AMOC, shapes Europe's climate and global weather. Professor Stefan Rahmstorf breaks down why scientists are more concerned about its stability than ever before.

@rahmstorf Very clearly explained - well worth everyone spending that 12 minutes!
@rahmstorf Scientists need to change the wording. 'Could', 'might'... forget it. As long as all our politicans hear is 'maybe' they will do exactly nothing.
Will it collaps or not? - yes it will.
When will this happen? - it is a process not an event. But we know it already started
What will be the conseqences? - Ende of civilisation.

At this point you will hear insane laughter, and politicians leaving the event. I remember vividly, even in the midst of the most deadly Corona wave, politicians and contrarians lobbying and protesting for a total halt to non pharmaceutical interventions.

@rahmstorf Im Übrigen ist der 2m:20s Antarktis "Drohnen Anflug" (Oder CGI? Ich weiß es nicht, ist ja von 2004) über Larsen B immer noch sehr sehr geil gemacht.

@rahmstorf How much influence do you and your peers have, in the UK and northern Europe, to mitigate - if not take advantage of the potential Greenland Ice Sheets melting toward those areas?

At root, the educational systems that create more mass movements, are severely lacking in Root Cause Analysis skill sets. Perhaps a coalition of scientists in the area, to help institute Behavioral Science as Core Education would be a start, along with empathetic peers.

@rahmstorf
This low pressure system above the Labrador sea is the thing that explains it for me. Up until now I thought there was a giant uncertainty whether the cold blob would extend to Europe. And I always wondered why this presumed amoc collapse hadn't cooled Europe down yet. I think that this uncertainty would allow for inaction in some confused minds. So please correct me, if I misunderstood that, as I'm about to tell people i my vicinity ^^'
