@biff52 Guy at substack tells this familiar story.
"But over the last 15 years, despite the fact that nothing new has been built in my town, the stars are now almost impossible to see. My next-door neighbor is terrified of the dark, so he installed two 10,000-Watt LED spotlights to illuminate his backyard. Someone across the valley two miles away has installed their own 10,000-Watt spots that shine directly on the back of my house.

@biff52

The shopping center a mile away and hidden in a valley installed new LED lights in the parking lot that illuminate both the lot and the sky above it. The airport up the block installed new LED lights in its parking lot, again lighting up the sky.

Paintball guns are getting pretty cheap now.
Just, y' know, FYI.
@TidalFlats @edwilk
He just added surveillance cameras.
@biff52 @edwilk
Jeez. Has he been getting death threats or is he just paranoid?
@TidalFlats @edwilk
He's a highway patrol officer, his job is to make enemies.
@biff52 @edwilk
Got it. How if you ask him nicely to add motion detectors to his spotlights? Even the cheapo cameras have IR night vision and he'll save money.
@biff52 @TidalFlats
He's dirty and afraid of his co-dirtbags.
@edwilk @biff52
Problem. Invest in blackout curtains?

@TidalFlats @edwilk @biff52

Still kills Biffs view of the night sky

@glasspusher @TidalFlats @edwilk
Yep. It's criminal! Well, actually civil, but who's gonna enforce it against a cop?
