What if we stopped fantasizing about AI and focused on the truth? Thanks for sharing this piece so others can read it.

Why are AGI and conscious AI just a marketing scam?

Does conscious AI really exist, or is it just a marketing scam to raise billions and capture your personal data?

@novafuture allow me to be the devil's advocate for a while. Technically there is no physical restriction for a consciousness to be only on a biological substrate. It's just a meta characteristic of  the brain. It's just a pattern which emergently does its job.

That which the so called AI can't do, is to act autonomously. it just does, what it's programmed to do. For an example, to make convincing heartwarming sentences. It can be bad at anything else, because it's not programmed to do that and people on the internet make fun of it. 😉

@nlupo "Technically there is no physical restriction for a consciousness to be only on a biological substrate." Why not, but I invite you to provide at least some evidence to prove it... You use the word "technically," and I certainly won't venture into metaphysical territory. But everything suggests that consciousness has nothing to do with technology. All we know for certain about it is that it's an individual experience.

@novafuture I don't see other objection than the belief in a supernatural soul and that's unfalsifiable claim in the best case scenario.

I'm a libertarian, but from the Aristotelian type (in some sense dialectical materialism is the same, as far as I know). The so called "world of forms" i.e. the abstract it's just a meta characteristic of the material world. Both can't exist separately. In some sense someone can argue for immaterial soul, which is just a pattern of processes in the physical world.

Biology is just part of our material world. There is no distinction between the carbon in something alive and the carbon in the coal.

Technology  deals with things in the material world, therefore, there are no restrictions (other than ethical ones or it's actual usefulness) to replicate consciousness. If you know any, then show me. I'm open for new ideas.

@nlupo In the natural process, there is no reproduction of consciousness. There is the creation of a new, independent consciousness through the creation of a new entity. This distinction is very important. And so far, the only conclusion we can draw from this is that consciousness is unique and non-reproducible.

@novafuture Isn't that what people do? They create new entities with consciousness.

Either way, I think it does not matter. If they don't create an actual consciousness and sell it as such they are just con artists (the current situation). If they make a real consciousness, I still will be against it, because that will be slavery.

@nlupo In the meantime, we're kind of the slaves :-) I'd prefer it to be machines.
@novafuture we are wage slaves  but even then, I'm against slavery.
