I enjoy the creativity of knitfactoryImpl's youtube channel but this video showing off the capabilities of a particular knitting machine was fascinating. You can watch the whole thing but I'm going to put in timestamps to talk about a couple of particular techniques

The technique that I don't think can really be reproduced by hand-knitting is "plating" which knits with two contrasting yarns at once, but instead of producing a marled effect, the yarns are carefully arranged so that one is always to the front and one is always to the back. I don't see how a hand knitter could achieve this, but perhaps you know of a way?: https://youtu.be/_fao3RsZ-80?t=1346

https://youtu.be/_fao3RsZ-80?t=1225 shows a technique called "weaving" in her knitting manual, but I think for hand-knitters it's closer to roosimine or Estonian Inlay? It's not an exact replication because it's done in a way that takes advantage of the affordances of the machine, but produces a somewhat similar effect.

Her machine also allows her to do both what it calls "transfer lace" and "fine lace" and I'm not sure how to understand these as a hand-knitter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fao3RsZ-80&t=2075s

The link I pasted above shows both, but if you go to the section in her video she's linked in the description as "transfer lace" you can see how the lace carriage somewhat painstakingly moves stitches to achieve the effect.

"transfer lace" looks most like what I would knit, I'm not sure how "fine" lace is achieved.

You can watch the whole video for other techniques I didn't mention, but these are instantly comprehensible to me, so less interesting. It's still neat to see how the machine does them, though!
