I revisit Night Shift's short story "Battleground" with a short Russian adaptation that I only learned about recently!

This short animated film dates back to 1986 during the depths of the Soviet Union & US cold war. The animation (?) may be rotoscoped? And surprisingly, some of the dialog is in English.

Interestingly, there actually is an IMBD entry for this short little film!

A Russian film featuring a GI Joe case... Didn't the Soviets have their own version of toy soldiers? A brand native to their nation?
It's not a little army man but rather a mini futuristic robot?
They launch a satellite in this version! 😂
The animation is making me a bit nauseous. It's jumpy, the colors are discordant. The music is cacophonic & electronic. I feel like an insane person single-handedly made this thing.
And finally... the gift every child wants to see under their Christmas tree!
A Soviet Animation of Stephen King’s Short Story “Battleground” (1986)

Stephen King has that rare, and spectacularly profitable, skill to suck you into his world and compel you to flip to the next page. And when you’re hooked, his words have the uncanny ability to simply unfold like a movie in your head.

Open Culture

That Soviet-era "Battleground" was a little too odd to end the day with, so I'll circle back to some normalcy with The Losers' Club and their revisit of the 1984 cult classic film, "Children of the Corn".

This month marks the 40th anniversary of Fritz Kiersch's Children of the Corn. Starring Peter Horton and Linda Hamilton, the 1984 adaptation largely ignored King's Night Shift story -- and his own screenplay -- in favor of a more rote entry in the slasher genre. Join the gang as they return to Gatlin, Nebraska to chart its leap from page to screen ... to unlikely franchise.Follow u
