@solitha I hadn’t heard of that, interesting! I would assume it’s mostly larger, and particularly intelligent parrots species that are capable of learning to use this. Luckily our birds live in a flock of 10 and have lots of social interaction irl anyway. :)

@lindenshieldarts Ah, glad to hear you have a flock!

The study didn't mention conures as far as I can see; I'd be willing to bet, though, that many isolated pet birds would get some benefit out of such calls, even if they weren't quite bright enough to initiate them.

@solitha Considering how social birds are, definitely! I always tell people not to get just one, because even if you spend a lot of time at home, there will be times when they are alone and that can quickly lead to boredom and depression, no matter how many toys they have at their disposal.

@lindenshieldarts Same with dogs! I felt so bad when I heard about all the "pandemic pups" being adopted. I knew many would end up back in a shelter with behavior problems after people began to return to offices.

Too often we only think "how cute" and "I want" and disregard the animal's own needs.

@solitha Exactly! People need to do proper research before committing to caring for an animal.
