- Friend gives me a list of instructions for [thing] in Discord conversation
- I'm thinking: Okay I should copy this to a text file
- Then think: Wait, why bother? It's a discord convo I can grab it later
- Hour passes
- Discord goes offline and won't load older messages
- Uhh ok, I go back to the computer I had the conversation and scroll up
- Discord force reloads while scrolling, then breaks
- WHY DOES ALL THE SOFTWARE BY COMPANIES THAT FIRED ALL MY FRIENDS ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO KEEP BREAKING
@mcc this is really why i hate the assumption that seems prevalent in software that everything will always be connected to the internet
@emaytch @mcc or assume that my internet, when it is connected, is stable
@mcc discord was broken, like so much else, by design. I've refused from the start. I read notification emails.
@mcc My "WHY DOES ALL THE SOFTWARE BY COMPANIES THAT FIRED ALL MY FRIENDS ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO KEEP BREAKING" T-shirt has people asking a lot of questions already answered by my shirt.
@jik @mcc I want one too! Where did you get it?
@shapr @jik @mcc used to have a friend who made them, but you'll never guess what happened to their job
@jik @mcc but I never get to take off my “there is no cloud there is only someone else’s computer” tee shirt.
@jik @mcc I'd buy that for a dollar.

@mcc

They're clearly not using enough tokens

@mcc and throughout these issues, the Discord Status page showed a perfect uptime (I checked several times)... 💩
@mcc BECAUSE TECH BROS ARE AGAINST HUMANS USING TECH FOR THE COMMON GOOD.

@mcc THIS!!! Everything where everyone worked keeps breaking. I don’t use Discord, but it’s happening all over the place.

You can’t fire everyone and expect everything to keep working. You also can’t fire everyone and expect AI to keep everything working.

@mcc I think that last entry is self-answering...

@mcc but don't you see? Everything being a centralized app is the way forward! /s

Jokes aside, registering anything from Discord conversations is a nightmare, even in ideal conditions.

What it is good at is being great at destroying conversations with two clicks while trying to replace good ol' forums.

Almost feels like a project to destroy digital history if/when needed.

@mcc wait, people still use discord after they announced their age verification plan?

@mcc That’s why Teams is better: it doesn’t need to go offline to screw you. It lazy loads and shitbag-unloads* conversations a screenful and a half at a time as you scroll, so you can’t copy anything longer than that in one go.

* If lazy-loading is “not loading until you really have to,” then “unloading even though you have no reason to” has to be called shitbag-unloading.
