Ah, the modern world. I need to sort out mum's broadband service. Her current provider will no longer provide a phone service. She's not got fibre to the house at the moment. And the complication of a telecare system. I probably should have started to worry about this ages ago.
And she will lose her #Plusnet email address because they no longer provide a package that works for her. The full bag of shite.
This is now officially a shitshow. #Plusnet are pushing their elderly landline dependent customers to #EE. But if you ring the latter as instructed, the customer services people have no knowledge of this.
She had a telecare system. Those people weren't particularly helpful either.

@keefeglise Do you know if the telecare people replaced their box recently. They should have been going around installing newer VOIP compatible ones —I know they did with us.

The maddening thing here is that PlusNet, EE and BT are the same company.

It seems that plugging the phone into the router is the way everything is going now. The big consequence being, if there is a power or internet outage, you’re cut off, which is potentially dangerous for telecare.

@gavin57 The telecare box must be about 8 years old. No mention of replacement. And yes, if there's a power cut you need to rely on mobile. But I can't see how this would work if mum fell and had to press the button on her pendant. My understanding is that it will only be internet calling next year.
Also #Plusnet's hold music is shite.
@keefeglise but it’s no-nonsense shite.
@keefeglise
Had to phone Royal bank yesterday with my mum to fix mobile and internet banking
They give option to replace hold music with a soft tone repeated
Never heard it as call was answered quickly but I did think that was a good move forward
Then it said might get hold music anyway if transferred as not all departments are enabled for tone
Close but no cylindrical smoke thing
@keefeglise Two parts of BT Group not talking to each other. What a family!
@hischeekiness Been advised to talk to BT as well. That's where all the old folk with landlines will end up.
