@kde this will still work with `session optional pam_kwallet5 force_run auto_start kwalletd=/usr/bin/ksecretd` right?
@arkades @kde Yes, this application is just a client for whatever infrastructure is already there. so kwalletd would be already running with pam support, this app would just connect to it (via SecretService) and show/manage the passwords
@kde I don't understand the "based on SecretService" in combination with KeepassXC. Currently KeepassXC tells me, that it cannot start the secret service because there is already kwallet running. How would this new tool interoperate with KeepassXC?
@tuxflo @kde i guess KeepassXC had to start it as majority of linux system still use the "older" mechanism, so maybe KeepassXC will make an update to check if it's already running ?
@tuxflo @kde
If i had to guess it might just be a frontend to multiple services? As in this seems like a thing for the user to use as opposed to apps on the system.
@kde Please stop calling a password app a "Wallet," when the rest of the world calls an app for managing credit cards a "Wallet." It's confusing.
@iam Pretty sure kwallet started as the latter and moved into storing more than just financial information a very long time ago. So wallet would be correct in this case.
@kde
This could be used in any browser app??
@karlggestd @kde This is the browser app, is purely a graphical frontend. it can be used with any password manager that provides the SecretService dbus specification
@kde hope to see KDE progressive move finished.
I wonder if this supports browser passkeys locally? Or SSH keys for that matter.
@kde Great, that it’s now available on Flathub.
