At the moment, for myself, working, and also considering moving my main account. The admin is friendly (mivatter.com), but they’re not very experienced, and I’d rather not keep dealing with the growing pains.

The reason I often use Mastodon as a fallback is that it’s typically limited to 500 characters, whereas Misskey starts at around 3,000 characters.
This allows me to be as clear as possible when explaining things, reducing the chance of misunderstandings (unless someone is intentionally trying to misunderstand). It also prevents trolls from cutting into a thread and burying your message. In the past, I’ve experienced this, and what I said was easily taken out of context.
Your concern surrounding the character limit should not be a problem. 😉
