I finally disassembled and washed the case and cleaned up the keys and keyboard of my less-than-beloved Atari 800XL.

It certainly looks a lot better, but the keyboard is mushier than even my 130XE, to the point of being unusable for touch typing - many keys bind if you don't hit them dead centre. I'm on the lookout for an ALPS replacement.

The previous owner did the (PAL) S-Video bodge, but it's softer than the S-Video output on both my original Atari 800 and on my 130XE. I'm inclined to give it the VBXL treatment.

Does anyone have alternative suggestions for what to do about the keyboard and S-Video output?

Interesting: Jason Moore, the lad behind Atari Projects mentions that removing a capacitor can sharpen up the video signal:
