If you're reading this, you are not the average browser user. You have your preferences, and you want to contribute to a better internet for all.

But that's not always the case with our family and friends, who more often than not fail to grasp why their browser choices are kind of a big deal.

Last Easter, @oskar helped switch his parents to Vivaldi. Ok, granted, it's easier to convince them when that's the company you work for 😅, but as a Vivaldi user, have you tried to get people to switch? How did it go?

The more we are, the stronger we get! 💪

How I got my parents to use Vivaldi

My parents, are normal parents. They have an average tech understanding of a Norwegian person passed 60 years. This is how I got them to use Vivaldi

Vivaldi Browser

@Vivaldi

My husband was an ex Opera user but recently I convice him to use Vivaldi as a better Opera experience

@Fando that's great! You can tell him that most of our dev team was once part of the original Opera team
@Vivaldi @oskar It's not about convincing others to use your favourite browser; I've tried for years and most often failed because the experience is not what they want. Currently I use Zen, Previously Slimjet, before that FF until version Ninety-something and even in those years, often Dillo.My mother - in her late eighties - got on best with slimjet.
@sjcooke66 @oskar more than convincing them to use your favourite browser, it's about showing there's better alternatives and switching away from Big Tech :)
@sjcooke66 are you sure those browsers being secure, safe for your family?
@jkambber Do you have evidence to the contrary? I'd always be interested in considering it!
@sjcooke66 about my personal experience, yes I do have about how our data being leaked and disturbed us
@sjcooke66 one more thing I say #nobigtech in my family, my close circle because Big tech companies are serving their Zionist BOSS very well
@Vivaldi @oskar I didn’t try to convince my husband. I just kept using Vivaldi and told him every now and then what I love about it. He became curious and a few days ago he told me he had switched to vivaldi as welll. 😊
@norabjds @oskar leading by example is by far the best way to change someone’s mind ❤️

@Vivaldi @oskar
I’m friends with one of the percussionists for the Minnesota Orchestra. I helped him rescue an old Windows 10 laptop by installing Linux on it.

I asked him if he would be willing to switch browsers.

“I don’t know if I want to use your weird browser,” he said. “What’s it called?”

“Vivaldi.”

“Mmmm. Good name. Ok. I’ll try it.”

Vivaldi. Good for musicians.

@rob @oskar ok this story was too good, shared with the whole team just now. Tell your friend we said hi!
@Vivaldi @oskar Over the past year I’ve been running a discrete yet persistent campaign for spreading information and recommendations on why it’s beneficial to switch to Vivaldi. Sadly the most people I know are quite averse to trying something new, nor do they seem concerned with privacy issues or the US tech dominance. And Im not exactly a great salesperson either. 😞 Thus far I’ve only managed to convert one digital soul. However it doesn’t mean I’d bee giving up. 😎
@droseraangelica @oskar it's not easy, and more often than not it's a long run. You can always try showing some cool features and have them go "oooooh that's cool!". Thank you for your efforts! :)
@Vivaldi @oskar I've last month replaced Windows on my mother's old thinkpad with Linux Mint and Vivaldi. It's working great so far!!
@Vivaldi I just installed it for my daughter and deleted Google Chrome. She didn’t notice anything )

@Vivaldi @oskar Showed a couple of friends, they were pretty impressed by the feature set. Specifically my favorite feature, reader mode.

I've been searching for a FF alternative that has the features (reader mode included) and doesn't break as much. Vivaldi is pretty good so far.

@fizzlefry @oskar yay!!! we have a lot of features, gotta love it when someone gets impressed 😍
