At 734 PM CDT, a confirmed tornado was located over Slater, or 9
miles south of Ames, moving northeast at 25 mph.

NORTHEASTERN MADISON...SOUTHEASTERN DALLAS AND WEST CENTRAL WARREN

At 727 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
was located near Badger Creek State Park, or 6 miles northeast of
Winterset, moving east at 45 mph.

Most of the Des Moines metro is covered right now as well as areas north and south. Areas covered include parts of Polk County, Story County, Dallas County, Boone County, Warren County

Updated map at 7:56 pm shows the two open warnings, one heading for Nevada, Iowa, the other for West Des Moines and Norwalk.
KCCI is saying that the “rotation” has passed the Des Moines downtown, no tornado, but damaging winds. Heading for eastern part of Des Moines Iowa.
Another tornado warning is still open heading in the Marshalltown Iowa area.

was located near Van Wert, or 7 miles northwest of Leon, moving
northeast at 35 mph.
KCCI is saying there was straight line wind of 70 MPH measured at Lamoni Airport. Straight line winds that strong can cause tornado-like damage.
KCCI says the tornado warning that was in Polk County and Jasper County has been canceled.
I checked and confirmed it had been removed from the NWS webpage.

KCCI is saying the overall storm strengths are declining. They are still monitoring, but it sounds like the danger levels overall are greatly decreased. The strongest rotation they are monitoring is approaching Chariton, Iowa.
KCCI is saying in a guarded way that the storm they are tracking at the moment has mostly “overrun” the only open tornado warning area, but it remains open until 10 pm. KCCI is saying the rotation has reduced. They are hinting they think the NWS may cancel the warning, but it remains open.
KCCI just said the last remaining tornado warning from NWS has been cancelled.
I have confirmed that there are no warnings on the NWS page. Looks like the most severe weather is over for the evening.
KCCI 8-2 just ended their weather coverage and reverted to regularly scheduled programming (Golden Girls).
