Visa overstays significantly outnumber small boat arrivals.

While small boat arrivals reached 41,000 in 2025, they represent only a fraction of the "irregular" population

Visa overstays are in the hundreds of thousands

But

"Stop the Boats" - is easy to chant if you have three brain cells, "Stop the Visa Overstays," not so much

@Geri folk constantly moan about small boat arrivals in East Anglia (100+km rather than 30km sailing distance,), and places like Stowmarket (35km inland from any coast, a long distance to travel with no transport)

The govt have however clamped down on visa issuing, which is now deterring legit healthcare workers, mechanics and tradespersons from arriving to the UK (and these are all people we *need* due to declining birth rates outside cities)

@vfrmedia AS are dispersed throughout the country xx
@Geri they are, but they don't arrive all at once in areas that are geographically hard to get to, which is what the gammons are constantly claiming (they even reported some white European folk with a small boat, who were sailing it legitimately for some kind of charity expedition)
@vfrmedia they are mistaken

@Geri few years back there were literally old men joining Coastguard volunteers not so much to look for ships in distress (there aren't that many, folk are more sensible on the North Sea than they are driving on A12/A14), but to watch out for "illegal immigrants arriving" (of which there haven't even been that many, due to the remotness and extra distance!)

I used to hear one guy constantly talking about it on the amateur radio repeater although he's not been on for a while (I think he either ended up in the senior home or kicked bucket)

@Geri

Also, visa overstays don't allow for a twisted evocation of British military defeat and retreat from Europe (shurely desperate nostalgia, -ed).

@iaruffell Jingoism and island mentality!

@iaruffell @Geri

And visa overstays are not as televisual - no dramatic beach scenes...

@GeofCox @Geri

Or white cliffs.

And the corpses bob along in a threatening manner.
