Rudy Martinez recounts the killing yesterday afternoon of Amal Khalil, a reporter for Lebanon’s Al-Akhbar by Israeli fire. She was reporting from near At-Tiri in Lebanon when an Israeli strike hit a vehicle near her, killing two people. She and journalist Zeinab Faraj took refuge in a house Israeli fire struck the house. Red Cross personnel tried to reach the house and were fired on.

"The Committee to Protect Journalists had documented a direct, named death threat against Amal Khalil from the IDF in September 2024 — nineteen months before she died under rubble that paramedics were blocked from reaching. The head of Lebanon’s Union of Journalists accused Israel of deliberate targeting. The IDF said it had struck vehicles it believed came from a Hezbollah military structure and denied blocking rescue workers."
