Njion the Cofftea Dragon ☕Why do people in the US still take Benadryl as an allergy med?? Like y'all know we've had antihistamines that don't give you severe drowsiness since 1973? Straight up, here in Poland the active substance in Benadryl is sold as a sleep aid, not as an allergy medication.
I mean it's pretty good at making you fall asleep, to be fair. It also comes with a heightened risk of developing dementia when used long term. So how about we quit using it for managing allergies?? It's genuinely terrible??

@njion by now i think it's more often used as a sleep aid here too. doctors usually recommend cetirizine or loratadine, both of which are available otc
tho i'm sure people take it for allergies because it's really cheap, $3.59/100 pills for the generic version vs. $12.59/90 pills for cetirizine at a local store though it's much cheaper online
can't imagine taking it regularly tho, always had unpleasant effects from it including rash and once mild paranoia and hallucination at the max recommended dose

@jiub it's crazy you can even get 100 pills.. It's rare to find medication boxes that contain 30 pills here lol

but then the same store has 500 count acetaminophen (paracetamol) for $7.99, not sure that's a good idea
