If an MP from some party resigns from parliament, should their seat just go to whoever that party picks, no byelection?

Seems like the logical thing to do if we're going from the premise that people only voted for the original MP because of their party.

Unfortunately that is way too close to the truth considering the power party leaders have over the nomination process as well as party policies.

I'm not against floor crossing, but believe the floor crossers should be banned from cabinet or other special seats of power, otherwise those perks can be used to bribe a floor crosser.
