I don't think it is far fetched that popular cinema film types colour, pun intended, our perceptions of memories and vice versa. In this popular illusion the coke can consists of black and white stripes. A person can check in #GIMP or similar application with an eye drop colour picker. And, without my phone I've managed to distract myself with 3 minutes doing and 20 minutes thinking. Orwell was half right on distrusting your eyes.

Checking this it's not quite black and white stripes, but there is no red, the strawberry illusion on the same source page is equally, if not more so, jarring and I assume someone with no knowledge of strawberries or a Coke can would be more likely to see things as they are because they have less knowledge of what they should look like. TBF I was watching an OK, in the sense it was very competent, film and checked afterwards. It had a better ending than I remembered.
