Short visual appreciation thread of the Olympiapark in Munich. Built from 1968 for the 1972 Olympics, it is most famous for its translucent membrane roof architecture. The tower was already finished in 1968 and was used for communication links and still contains a restaurant.

The main attraction is the football stadium with its free floating roof section. You can really see the tension in each plastic panel of the roof. Apparently the civil engineers used soap bubbles on scale models to measure the required curvatures, since computer numerical methods were not yet available in the sixties.

On the other side are olympic hall and swimming pool. Behind them you can see the olympic village. Since the 1972 olympics, the park has hosted tens of thousands of events with hundreds of millions of visitors. What a wild ride.
